A collection of love letters written to the town.
I am doing better in Toledo.
I came to Toledo for my Doctorate from the University of Michigan-Flint campus. I loved Flint and I thought I could never love a city as much as I loved the place that taught me many life lessons…but I do. I love Toledo! The love was gradual, the first 5 weeks of school I cried on a regular basis. Longing for a way to fit in my new town. Thankfully I had moved into the greatest neighborhood in Toledo, the Old West End and I began to realize Toledo’s full potential.
After meeting some fun and hip people I realized all of the fun that Toledo has to offer. From the Art Museum to the Zoo, the ethnic festivals and the glass galleries, the downtown and the local sports. I feel like I have found my way in this city and am thriving. I am loving the University and am currently serving on three community boards. One of my favorite things about Toledo is that if you want to make a difference YOU can. From the Toledo SOUP to Epic Toledo, lots of passionate people are helping to make this city great. I am proud to say that I am one of them.
I can’t imagine a better and more deserving city to love and to change for the better. You really “Will do better in Toledo!”
We meet up with Jessica on the University of Toledo’s main campus where she spends her days completing her PhD in Health Education. Since arriving in the Glass City less than three years ago Jessica has found a city full of people that are welcoming, loving and ready to roll up their sleeves to make their city better – and she is right there with them every step of the way.
